I wonder why I attempted this

Hi, it’s the second translation. And yes, I decided to choose an even harder song to translate (in terms of language and also covert meaning). This song is Tsuioku by Kalafina, which was the 3rd song included in the single of the 3rd Madoka Magica movie, Rebellion.

Kalafina and Kajiura Yuki tend to use a lot of flowery language and the lyrics usually mean more than they look, and most of the time they are in line and very appropriate for the context of the anime/movie etc. that they did the song for. I actually wanted to translate this song last year, however when I looked at the Japanese lyrics, the number of words I didn’t understand was astounding, so I decided to give up, but it was still lingering in my mind somewhere. So after successfully translating Born to be, I got a little bit more confident and I decided to try again. :> Fortunately this time it was easier for me to grasp the meaning and it was fun translating this song. Kimi no Gin no Niwa is on my to-translate list, and this song is also the ending theme for the movie. Truthfully I really like all 3 songs in this single. Kimi no Gin no Niwa (lit. Your Silver Garden), seems like a cheerful and happy song on the surface, but if you actually really look into the lyrics, and maybe understand the context by watching the movie, you’ll actually find out there’s a darker meaning. I’m really looking forward to translating this soon, but it won’t be posted up so soon as I still have a backlog of translated lyrics to post up and a long to-translate list. Tsuioku (lit. Recollections) sounds much darker in comparison, and is also a song which relates really well to the character(s) in the movie (no spoilers for you guys). The second song in the single, Misterioso, also sounds rather upbeat but I have yet to look into the lyrics.

Anyway, here’s the lyrics for Tsuioku: (Japanese side from Kimi no Gin no Niwa single, and the English side is a direct translation and is open to different interpretations.)

English translation:

You see off the shadow

That disappears

Into the gloomy mist

You waved your hand

The pretty curve will always be swinging.

The beautiful morning

Exists to send someone off

The sweet jewel that pecks at my chest

Has been reduced to one

The touch

That carries the sounds of my recollections

Infested my fingers

The glittery midday star

Seems to quietly

Descend into the night

In my frolicking memory,

Nothing can be reached

In the fortress of my dream

That was so much similar to eternity,

Blew the wind of “That day”

Escaping from my forehead

The polished trap of time

The depth of my recollections

Nothing is no longer needed

The faceless voice and

The fingertips that can’t be seen

Which slide down my eyelids

The you who

Spliced kindness

Did not hold a name

The sky in the bottle

Is soon reaching sunset

The golden sigh

Just keeps on repeating

If I search for

The happiest time.

Until where

Will the greedy children

Go back to?

Under the Elm tree

That lies on the bank of the forest,

Only the gesture of love

Keeps on repeating

Passing the summer breeze

Escaping from my forehead

Falling from the soundless sky

Was the song without words

Nothing is no longer needed

In the beautiful country of my memories

Let’s start the feast of my recollections

The translations are subject to change if I find other words which are more suitable in conveying the original meaning.
