Potentially the best anisong of 2014

Oh god oh god oh god. I was never expecting Tokyo Ghoul to be this good. I only started watching it because of the hype, it didn’t disappoint and I ended up reading the manga as well. Personally, it’s the type of story that I’m drawn to, and it reminds me a bit of D.Gray Man, but much darker, in the sense that there is less humour, and the type of characters and themes portrayed. Nevertheless, the anime isn’t disappointing so far and I hope it stays that way. Other than the great story and the lovely, amazing art, what I like about the anime would be the BGM (amazing) and the Opening theme, unravel, by TK from Ling Tosite Sigure. I’m guessing it’s probably really really popular and the first time I heard it I was just like wow. I later found out that Ling Tosite Sigure also did abnormalize for PSYCHO-PASS, which was another great song. You could say this is my favourite anisong in 2014 (so far), and it’s seriously awesome. Another great anisong from this season following closely behind would be Dare ka, Umi wo by Aimer from the anime Zankyou no Terror (another series you should really check out).

As such, following the hype, I decided to do a literal translation of the full version of unravel. The single has just been released, and it doesn’t disappoint. Also, a GREAT, GREAT English Rendition of unravel sung by Kuraiinu is worth a listen AND download. It’s a truly amazing cover. Also worth mentioning would be TheIshter’s piano arrangement

unraveling the world

English Translation:

Teach me, please teach me, about this construction. Is there someone within me?

Broken, so broken, is this world. You were smiling, without seeing anything

This kind of broken me, I’ll stop my breath

It won’t come apart. It won’t ever come apart, even something like the truth. Freeze

Breakable, unbreakable, becoming insane, can’t be insane

I found you. In this wavering

Distorted world, I started turning transparent, I became invisible

Please don’t find me, please don’t stare at me

In a world depicted by someone else, I don’t want to hurt you

Please remember me, vividly

Expanding limitlessly, our loneliness entwined The innocent smile stuck in my memory

I can’t move, I can’t move, I can’t move, I can’t move, I can’t move, I can’t move at all

Unraveling the world

Unconsciously changing, unable to change

The two of them entwined, the two of them were ruined

Breakable, unbreakable, becoming insane, can’t be insane

I don’t want to dirty you. In this wavering

Distorted world, I started turning transparent, I became invisible

Please don’t find me, please don’t stare at me

In the trap of loneliness someone else constructed, before our future comes apart,

Please recall me, vividly

Don’t forget, Don’t forget, Don’t forget, Don’t forget

Paralyze the things that changed unconsciously

Paradise, were the mountains of things that were unable to change

Please, remember me

Teach me, teach me, Is there someone within me?

The translated lyrics in Kuraiinu’s cover is way more superior in terms of elegance in language.
